County Public Defense Resources 

CSAC would like to share two recently published resources on public defense with counties: 

1. A Guide for Building Data Capacity in Rural Defense Systems 

The Center for Justice Innovation and other entities partnered to study data capacity for rural defense systems. Recommendations are included within this guide specific to challenges facing rural jurisdictions.  

2. California Public Defense Workloads and Staffing  

CA AB 625 (Arambula, Chapter 583, Statutes of 2021), codified as Cal. Govt. Code § 15403 (2021), required a study to be completed to assess workloads for public defenders and indigent defense attorneys and submit a report with their findings and recommendations to the Legislature.
