As California navigates the complexities of closing a significant state budget deficit, CSAC is urging a plan that prioritizes the well-being and safety of all communities. Counties remain at the forefront of delivering essential services, and their insights are critical to shaping sustainable budget decisions that work for every corner of the state.

In a recent letter to Governor Gavin Newsom, CSAC outlines key budget priorities that reflect the real needs of counties and the communities they serve:

  • An annual commitment of at least $1 billion appropriation in the state budget for the Homeless Housing, Assistance, and Prevention (HHAP) grant program.
  • At least $250 million across several county departments to implement Proposition 36.
  • Broadly, a request to not pre-cut critical social safety net programs that may be further impacted, pending anticipated federal actions.
