Sacramento, CA — California State Association of Counties (CSAC) CEO Graham Knaus issued the following statement after the Legislature approved SB 707 (Durazo) on Saturday:
The 1953 Brown Act is a cornerstone of good government — but it needs to join the 21st century. Amid opposition from all sides, Sen. Durazo stood firm as the responsible adult in the room. SB 707 strikes a careful balance, and counties are proud to support it.
Background: CSAC and other county advocates began the year with formal concerns on the bill but worked with Sen. Durazo to negotiate amendments.
