DHCS recently released the first impact report on California’s Justice-Involved Reentry Initiative. The report highlights statewide progress in launching pre-release services, cross-agency collaboration, and real-world stories of affected members served by the initiative. Notably, in the first year of the initiative, correctional facilities and implementing partners delivered more than 159,000 billable pre-release services and prescriptions to incarcerated individuals and enrolled more than 24,000 incarcerated individuals in Medi-Cal.
As this initiative is implemented statewide, DHCS has shared that they will showcase best practices, refine processes based on real-world feedback, and deliver hands-on support to the remaining facilities preparing to launch before October 1, 2026.
