Last Friday, Governor Newsom announced the creation of a new statewide task force, the State Action for Facilitation on Encampments (SAFE) Task Force, with the purpose of addressing encampments along state rights-of-way in California’s ten most populous cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose, Long Beach, Anaheim, Bakersfield, and Fresno.
The task force will consist of state agencies and departments who will work with local partners within the next month to clear highly visible encampments on state property and connect people experiencing homelessness to housing, shelter, and services.
