Curious about compensation in neighboring counties? Want to dig into state and local workforce data? Looking to identify trends in compensation? You’re in luck. Earlier today, the State Controller’s Office (SCO) released  2025 self-reported payroll data report for California cities and counties. The data include compensation, number of employees, and retirement and health contributions for nearly every county and city in the state.

This report is designed to provide transparency to Californians, reflecting how their tax dollars are allocated through public employment wages. The SCO’s office maintains and publishes payroll data for cities, counties, state departments, public universities, superior courts, select commissions, among others.

Please refer to the following links to access custom county reports and raw data:

Note: 2025 data for judiciary, the state, schools, and special districts are not yet available. We will provide another notice once they are posted.
