This week, Governor Newsom announced the first batch of seven Homekey+ awards from Proposition 1 funding, which was approved by voters in March 2024. The awards announced total nearly $102.9 million to create over 300 new permanent supportive housing units in Los Angeles, Nevada, Placer, Santa Barbara, and Stanislaus counties. Of these units, 64 are reserved for veterans. The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) will continue to review and approve Homekey+ applications on a rolling basis. As of June 24, HCD had received 67 Homekey+ applications requesting over $1.1 billion.

In addition to the Homekey+ awards, HCD also awarded the final two projects from Round 3 of the Homekey program, which is the predecessor for Homekey+. The final two Homekey awards are:

  • $25,740,000 awarded to the County of Santa Clara, in partnership with LifeMoves, for the new construction of 90 interim housing units to serve people experiencing homelessness.
  • $5,826,222 awarded to the County of San Bernardino, in partnership with the Family Assistance Program, for the new construction of 22 interim housing units to serve young adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness such as those exiting foster care or the probation system.

Additional information about the projects awarded funding this week is available on HCD’s website.
