What Counties Need to Know About CARB’s Clean Truck Check

The Housing, Land Use, and Transportation (HLT) Policy Committee is sharing a reminder to counties about fleet compliance with the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Clean Truck Check regulation. CARB has raised concerns that some local government fleets may not be fully meeting reporting requirements.
Because penalties for ‘failure to report’ can reach up to $10,000 per vehicle, per day, we share this brief reminder and key information to help ensure compliance and avoid unnecessary costs.
The Clean Truck Check applies to vehicles that are:
- Over 14,000 lbs manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)
- Operated on California public roads
- Utilize diesel, LNG, or other non-gasoline combustion fuels
