Advanced Clean Fleets

The California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation require counties, based on population, to phase out their existing diesel or gas powered medium and heavy-duty vehicle fleet (i.e. all vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 8,500 lbs. and over) by purchasing a compliant Zero-Emission Vehicle when they need to replace their current vehicle. These regulations and their reporting requirement became effective for most counties on January 1, 2024. The regulations designate 25 counties as ‘low-population counties’ (see list below) which are required to implement and report on the regulations provisions beginning on January 1, 2027.
