Local Streets and Roads Needs Assessment
Back to Policy IssuesNearly every trip begins on a city street or county road. Whether traveling by bicycle, bus, rail, truck or family automobile, Californians need a reliable and well-maintained local street and road system. CSAC was a key partner in the broader effort that resulted in the passage of the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, commonly known as SB 1 (2017), which secured funding for county road maintenance. The Local Streets and Roads report was a critical component of CSAC’s SB 1 advocacy effort to tell the county story of the vital need for dedicated road maintenance funding from the state. CSAC continues to act as a partner in the production of this biennial report through it’s participation on the report’s Oversight Committee along with representatives from County Engineers, Cities and Regional Transportation planning agencies.
