CARE Court to Launch in Los Angeles County on December 1

November 30, 2023

Tomorrow, Los Angeles County will implement the Community Assistance, Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) Act. Qualifying individuals or entities can petition the Superior Court of Los Angeles County to help connect eligible individuals to an array of services, including mental health and housing services, via a CARE Agreement or CARE Plan established and overseen by a judicial officer.

Los Angeles County joins the seven counties of Cohort One – Glenn, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne –  that began implementation of the CARE Act in October 2023 as reported in a prior CSAC Bulletin article. The remaining 50 counties are required to implement the CARE Act by December 1, 2024 (unless an extension is granted by the Department of Health Care Services, and no later than December 1, 2025).

An updated listing of CARE Act court locations for the first cohort counties and Los Angeles County, including where petitions can be filed, where hearings take place, and the court days specified for CARE Act proceedings, is available here.
