SB 1340 (Wolk) – Watch

SB 1340, by Senator Wolk, would add to the Department of Water Resources Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance a permit requirement for the installation or replacement of specified automatic irrigation systems, or the expansion of these systems to increase the irrigated area by 25% or more, for a landscape project on or after July 1, 2018. Specifically, the bill would apply to nonresidential landscapes, except at cemeteries and residential landscapes of 10,000 square feet or greater. The bill would not apply to the repair or replacement of the components or parts of any existing automatic irrigation system. SB 1340 is currently pending on the Assembly Floor.
Regional Conservation Frameworks
AB 2087 (Levine) – Request Comments

AB 2087, by Assembly Member Levine, would authorize the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) to approve Regional Conservation Frameworks (RCF) to inform actions that would advance the conservation of focal species, habitat and other natural resources. It also authorizes other public agencies to propose RCFS. This measure specifies the components of an RCF; authorizes DFW to approve an RCF for an initial period of 10 years, with a 10-year extension option; and includes public notice and hearing requirements. The bill also specifies that the approval or the existence of an RCF does not alter or affect, or create additional requirements for, the general plan of the city, county, or city and county, in which it is located. AB 2087 passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday, August 11, 2016.
