DWR, Water Education Foundation Present Water Summit in April
Mark your calendars for Building Capacity for Regional Sustainability in California: A Water Summit. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 12 at the Sacramento Convention Center, and will allow stakeholders and regional leaders and practitioners to discuss challenges and opportunities for establishing governance, developing plans, improving regulatory processes, and securing sustainable funding for achieving sustainable water balance. Public registration opens Friday, February 24.
Upcoming Informational Hearings: Tree Mortality, Emergency at Oroville Dam
The Assembly Natural Resources and Senate Natural Resources and Water Committees will hold a joint hearing on tree mortality, forest health and prescribed fire next Monday, February 27 at 3pm. CSAC is actively involved in work to implement the Governor’s Executive Order on Tree Mortality, and staff are advocating for local assistance, financial resources, regulatory help, and outreach.
The Senate Natural Resources and Water and Legislative Committee on Emergency Management will hold a joint hearing on the incident at Oroville Dam next Tuesday, February 28 at 9:30am. Water issues, infrastructure, and emergency management are priorities for CSAC.
Rail Safety and Hazmat Response Training Offered
A free training on various types of hazardous materials including toxic gases, corrosive liquids, and flammable gases will be offered in Richmond on two different days: March 20 and March 21. The class is geared towards hazmat technicians and specialists, first responders, and anyone else interested in learning more about the topic. The training will include workshops, classroom instruction, training opportunities with emergency response professionals, DVDs with presentations and additional videos and reference materials, lunch, and a certificate upon successful completion. The training is offered by The Chlorine Institute in collaboration with partner railroads; a flyer with additional information is available here.
