California Department of Aging Launches New Training Resources and Financial Incentives for Caregiving Workforce

June 8, 2023

This week, Governor Newsom and the California Department of Aging announced the launch of CalGrows, a new workforce and training development program for caregivers working with older adults and adults with disabilities. CalGrows brings together dozens of training providers to offer free virtual and in-person courses related to a range of topics, including Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, cultural diversity, infection control, consumer communication, and more.

CalGrows is intended to help build individual skill sets, job satisfaction, and growth opportunities to help further careers and build retention of a skilled and experienced caregiver workforce. Eligible paid in-home or community-based caregivers can earn up to $6,000 for completing free training courses. While unpaid family caregivers are not eligible for financial incentives, they are able to take the free training courses.

Additional information about the training courses, caregiver coaching, and how to earn incentive payments can be found on the CalGrows website.
