CSAC Advocates for Improved Public Safety Power Shutoff Regulations at the CPUC
March 28, 2019
CSAC recently submitted comments to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regarding its development of rules for Investor Owned Utility (IOU) Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) procedures.
This rule will provide clarity in the event that an IOU decides to shut off power to its customers and includes potential procedures of how to notify local governments and communities of shut offs.
Energy shut offs may occur in response to high wind events or other threatening conditions. This rule will also become a part of IOU Wildfire Mitigation Plans that the CPUC is concurrently developing a process for.
Disaster response and resiliency are top priorities for CSAC this year. In addition to submitting comments on this rulemaking, staff has been closely following dozens of bills related to wildfires that provide resources, assistance, or legal exemptions for counties. CSAC requested feedback from our members on March 15 in order to provide a comprehensive comment letter to the CPUC. Please click here to view a copy of the letter to the CPUC.
