CSAC AENR Policy Committee Meeting
May 19, 2016
The CSAC Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Policy Committee met yesterday in Sacramento and waded through a full agenda covering resource topics ranging from fire, water to air and, of course, marijuana. The Committee first heard a report from the new Assistant Chief Counsel, Tamara Colson at the Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation (BMMR). Ms. Colson addressed the Bureau’s regulatory licensing package and the outreach BMMR is doing with local governments. She also acknowledged the many unknowns with a pending legalization ballot measure before the voters in November.
The Committee heard from CAL Fire and received an update on the status of the Tree Mortality Crisis in California, including the additional funds marked for local governments in the May Revision of the budget. CSAC also previewed our short video on tree mortality that we will be using to bring awareness to the issue. The Committee also heard from the Natural Resources Agency and received an update on their controversial California Water Fix Project, otherwise known as the Delta Tunnels. Finally, the Committee heard a presentation from Santa Barbara County and their Anaerobic Digestion project, which will help the county meet its organic recycling goals.
The CSAC AENR Committee will meet during the summer months to take up ballot measures that have qualified for the November ballot. A date for this meeting will be set in the near future.
