CSAC Opposes Costly CEQA Bill
June 15, 2017
CSAC opposes AB 890 (Medina), which requires an environmental review of all proposed local initiatives that constitute a project under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and requires cities and counties to approve the project regardless of the outcome of the environmental review. AB 890 erodes the local initiative process and is potentially unconstitutional in limiting initiatives from appearing on the ballot. Additionally, it imposes a significant mandate on county elections officials and planning departments.
CSAC opposes the bill, which is currently awaiting referral to Senate committees, and encourages counties to submit opposition letters. Click here for CSAC’s latest opposition letter
