CSAC Webinar on AB 832 Tenant Protections and Rental Assistance – July 21

July 15, 2021

CSAC and the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency (BCSH) are hosting an informational webinar from 4- 5 p.m. on July 21 on recent changes to the COVID-19 Rent Relief Program and the extension of eviction protections for California tenants pursuant to AB 832. Counties with populations of 200,000 or greater that would like to administer “Round II” rental assistance state block grant funds must request an allocation by Wednesday, July 28. Register here.

AB 832 changed the state’s COVID-19 Rent Relief Program, extended eviction protections for California tenants, and created a framework for the administration of “Round II” rental assistance funding from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. CSAC’s summary of the bill is available here. A reservation table of Round II funding for each county is available here.

AB 832 extends eviction protections for non-payment of rent related to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to September 30, 2021, provided that the tenant has paid 25 percent of the rent due.

The bill also increased rental assistance payments to 100 percent of unpaid rent and 100 percent of prospective rent and utilities payments for up to 18 months of total aid per household, including increased aid for tenants that previously received prorated payments. These provisions apply to all state rent relief payments, as well as to “Option B” jurisdictions that are administering their own “Round I” rental assistance programs in conformance with the state’s program.

Representatives from BCSH will present on AB 832 and be available to answer your questions. Space is limited, so register today!
