Governor Newsom Announces State of Emergency Waivers for 35 Fuel Reduction Projects
March 28, 2019
On Friday, Governor Newsom visited Lake County to announce a state of emergency ahead of the upcoming fire season. This declaration waives certain environmental regulations allowing for the immediate implementation of 35 priority fuel reduction projects around the state that will help protect high fire risk communities in socio-economically disadvantaged areas.
The 35 projects were included in Cal FIRE’s 45 Day Community Wildfire Prevention & Mitigation Report that was released in response to Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-05-19. The report systematically identified high priority fuels reduction projects and other measures to put the state and local communities on a path toward long-term wildfire resiliency. A list of the projects (listed by county) included in the report and a link to each project description can be found here. Additionally, a map of the projects can be found on the Cal FIRE website here.
