IRS Announces California Storm Victims Qualify for Tax Relief; Extends Filing Deadline

January 12, 2023

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced that California storm victims have until May 15, 2023, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. The IRS is offering relief to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency – the list currently includes over 40 California counties and is available on the IRS’ Tax Relief in Disaster Situations page.

As reported by the IRS, the tax relief postpones various filing and payment deadlines that occurred starting on January 8, 2023. This announcement covers certain categories of farmers and applies to quarterly payroll and excise tax returns.

Please see the IRS’ press release for pertinent information and consult a tax professional or accountant for detailed information.
