Master Plan for Aging Webinar Provides Counties Key Opportunities

On March 15, CSAC hosted a virtual webinar, moderated by Inyo County Supervisor Jeff Griffiths, on the Master Plan for Aging (MPA). The webinar featured panelists who passionately engaged and supported the two-year effort to form a statewide roadmap to support and improve the lives of our growing older adult population. Please find the webinar recording here.

The presentations included an overview from Kim McCoy Wade, Director of the California Department of Aging, who outlined the extensive stakeholder process that included key county input, the overarching goals of the MPA, where the state is in the implementation process, and how counties can use the work from the MPA.

Elizabeth Fuller, Chief Consultant for the Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee, outlined the legislative role in the stakeholder process and implementation plan. Ms. Fuller also described the broad array of aging policy proposals that will be considered by the Legislature and the leadership on this issue by Assembly Member Adrin Nazarian, who chairs the Aging and Long-Term Care Committee.

Executive Director of San Francisco’s Department of Disability and Aging Services, Shireen McSpadden, and Executive Director of Justice in Aging, Kevin Prindiville, provided insight on the on-the-ground work that counties and the aging community can do to complement the goals of the MPA. Director McSpadden spoke on how San Francisco and other counties can utilize the MPA Local Playbook to make impactful local decisions. Mr. Prindiville highlighted the significant engagement of aging stakeholders by the Administration and the role of all agencies in improving the lives of older adults.

CSAC will continue to work with the state, counties, and the aging community on the implementation of the Master Plan for Aging.
