Zero Emission Vehicle Regulations Are Changing on 1/1/24 – Is Your Agency Ready?

August 10, 2023

The Institute for Local Government (ILG), in partnership with the California State Association of Counties, California Special Districts Association, and the League of California Cities is conducting a survey to better understand the impacts and opportunities the Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) regulations may have on your city, county, or special district agency.

In late April 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved the ACF regulations, which require a phased-in transition toward zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles. State and local government fleets will be required to ensure 50% of vehicle purchases are zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) beginning in January 2024. That number increases to 100% of vehicle purchases by 2027. Small fleets (jurisdictions with 10 or fewer vehicles) and those in designated counties have a later deadline but must begin ZEV purchasing in 2027.

Please take this short survey by August 18 and help us better understand how this regulation will impact your municipality.
