Description:

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Department of Finance are accepting applications for the position of Accountant II. Under the general supervision of the Finance Division Chief, the Accountant II performs journey level, professional accounting work of a varied nature. The Accountant II is responsible for creating journal entries and performing research for financial transactions, preparing bank account and general ledger reconciliations, and reviewing and analyzing complex accounting records and reports.

• Reconciliation of bank accounts from bank statement to general ledger balance
• Reconciliation of general ledger cash clearing accounts
• Creation of journal entries for bank and clearing account transactions
• Prepare various fiscal reports
• Issue necessary and moderately complex fiscal entries and adjustments in the financial system
• Provide as needed support to Senior Accountant and Finance Division Chief, while serving as operational back-up to all Treasury specific tasks

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator in both written and verbal communications to internal and external audiences. This person has the ability to clearly articulate and document appropriate accounting methodologies to be utilized in recording bank and clearing account transactions. Experience using financial enterprise resource planning software or other automated accounting system(s) is ideal. The ideal candidate is experienced in the processing and knowledge of governmental accounting and has exposure to a banking or treasury environment. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, accurate and able to work independently and as a team.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units in accounting. Additional professional or technical accounting experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis, provided there is no substitution for the accounting units AND two years of professional accounting experience. Education or experience in using automated accounting systems and spreadsheets, as well as experience in a public agency setting and within the specific area of assignment are highly desirable.
