$48,079 – $75,376 Annually

Description:

The vacancy to be filled will be in the Residential Permitting Section of the Planning Division. This section processes permits of a residential nature, including but not limited to: subdivisions, lot line adjustments, farm worker housing, and coastal development permits. On occasion, Planners in this Section also process permits for industrial or commercial uses. Under immediate supervision to general supervision, the candidate selected for this position will perform progressively complex professional planning work involving data collection and analysis, report preparation and public contact; and perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Planner I: The required knowledge, skills, and abilities can be obtained by completion of a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field and one or more years of progressively responsible planning experience.

Planner II: The required knowledge, skills, and abilities can be obtained by completion of a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field and two or more years of progressively responsible planning experience.

The ideal candidate will possess land-use planning experience including familiarity with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and Guidelines. He/she will be a reliable and detail-oriented individual who can identify and solve problems and can demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills. In addition, he/she must be able to review entitlement applications and conditions of approval, prepare staff reports and other written documents, and understand and administer diverse ordinances, rules, and regulations.
