Description:

The Sonoma County Permit and Resource Management Department seeks a vibrant, knowledgeable, and experienced professional for Deputy Director – Engineering & Construction.

The Deputy Director – Engineering and Construction leads a team of professional, technical, and/or support staff and directs the work of the Building & Safety Division and the Engineering and Water Resources Division of the Permit and Resource Management Department for the County of Sonoma.

The ideal candidate possesses the following attributes:

  • Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to interact positively with the general public, business owners, municipal leaders, elected officials, boards and commissions.
  • At least four years of experience supervising engineers and other professionals.
  • Forward and creative thinking with the ability to understand technical issues and offer sound and objective decision making to the Director.
  • Ability to manage multiple disciplines and juggle competing priorities.
  • A leader in the building official and engineering professional communities.
  • Proven leadership ability and excellent analytical problem solving skills.

Qualifications:

This position requires possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with academic course work in civil engineering and surveying; and four years of senior level civil engineering experience. A valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers and a CABO certificate as a Building Official is required or must be obtained within six months of hire. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required at time of hire. Registration as a Licensed Land Surveyor is desirable.
