Description:

As Deputy Public Defender I you will investigate, prepare, and present criminal and civil cases before the Courts. Additionally, you will:

•Interpret and apply laws and court decisions for use in the preparation of cases, opinions, and briefs
•Prepare pleadings and legal documents in connection with trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings
•Conduct general legal research using independent judgment and initiative
•Prepare written legal reports, opinions, briefs, and appeals
•Interview and advise witnesses in regard to criminal complaints

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have strong interest in criminal defense work and possess:

•Experience as an attorney, law clerk, or other professional legal position with experience in a Public Defender’s Office being strongly preferred
•Impeccable research and writing abilities
•Superb public speaking skills
•Fluent (reading, writing, conversation) English/Spanish bilingual skills desired
