Description:

The Assistant Engineer, under general direction, performs a variety of difficult field and office-engineering duties in connection with the design, construction and management of Public Works projects in the Engineering Division of Public Works. The Design Division provides oversight and design services for the road and bridge improvement projects as defined in the Capital Improvement Program. This section also provides project consultant selection, and design and construction oversight services to other County Departments such as the Department of Environmental Resources, Parks and Recreation Department, and Planning and Community Development.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

PATTERN I

• Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; AND
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience equivalent to a Senior Engineering Technician or in plan checking, building design, or construction inspection.

PATTERN II
• California certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers; AND
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience equivalent to a Senior Engineering Technician or in plan checking, building design, or construction inspection.
