Description:

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Junior Engineer. There is one full-time vacancy in the Engineering Division. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions that may occur in this classification while the list remains active. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six months.

The Junior Engineer will be responsible for assisting the Engineering Division by performing duties related to design and construction for a variety of project types, including roadway rehabilitation, bicycle and pedestrian accessibility, drainage improvements, slope stabilization, retaining walls and more. The Junior Engineer will assist in the preparation of construction documents and engineering calculations required for successful completion of projects. Duties include both office and field assignments, ranging from computer-aided drafting to construction inspection to project tracking. The Junior Engineer will work closely with division staff to use practical solutions to solve technical problems.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the skills necessary to provide technical assistance on assignments requiring knowledge of engineering principles with low to moderate supervision. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, possess analytical and problem solving skills, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have an enthusiastic approach to their work and a strong commitment to provide the highest level of work possible. The ideal candidate will have experience in using initiative and sound independent judgment, demonstrating critical thinking and ability to adapt to a high volume, fast-paced work environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate ability to work and coordinate construction projects with design professionals and contractors from all building trades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field from an accredited college or university or a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate.
