Legislative Policy and External Affairs Officer $6,922 - $8,412/Monthly* Starting salary up to $48.37/hour ($100,953/year), a cash allowance of $600/month, and a competitive total compensation package!* The Legislative Policy and External Affairs Officer leads the strategic health legislative policy work for the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS). Reporting to the Assistant Director of Health Services, this individual is responsible for strategic thinking, planning, and implementation for both externally facing (e.g., government relations, policy development, political advocacy) and internally focused programs that impact health policy. This is a key liaison role with counterparts within Sonoma County, the State of California, and the federal government.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Public Health, Community Health, Journalism, English, Marketing, or similar degrees, certification, or experience, and demonstrated mastery/competency in the following areas: • Supervision, management, and development of staff • Leadership utilizing strategic thinking/planning • Communication with stakeholders, including both writing and public speaking, designed to inform, influence, and move ideas into action • Competency and comfort level with making presentations and meeting with other government officials • Analytical and problem-solving skills • Understanding of issues related to populations with racial/ethnic health disparities • Understanding of government funding agencies and contracting practices • Competency with local health care safety net system issues • Knowledge of managed care principles • Competency with Microsoft Office products
