Description:

The Contra Costa County Library is recruiting to fill one permanent part-time (20 hours per week) vacancy for Library Literacy Assistant. The incumbent in this position will assist with volunteer recruitment, training and support activities, providing program information, and promoting library literacy programs through various media.
The Library Literacy Assistant is responsible for recruiting and training volunteers, conducting student in-take interviews, recommending appropriate methods and materials to tutors, maintaining records and gathering data, assisting with special events including Families for Literacy, contributing to newsletters, overseeing the library literacy lab, and representing library literacy programs at meetings.

Qualifications:

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Education/Experience Options: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, speech pathology and audiology, psychology, communications, humanities, social science or behavioral science field; or 200 hours of previous tutoring experience in an established literacy program and possession of either 1) 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or 2) certification as a teacher.
