The Senior Construction Inspector – Land Development and Engineering position is in the Department of Planning and Development. This position is responsible for performing grading and drainage inspections for single site, subdivision, complex hillside land development and commercial building projects, and documenting such inspections using improvement plans, basic engineering terminology, land development entitlements, modern material testing techniques safety methods, practices and precautions, surveyor boundary calculations, modern survey and staking procedures, field surveys, calculating line and grade computations. In addition to meeting the employment standards, a qualified candidate must possess recent experience inspecting grading and drainage site improvements and documenting construction means, methods, and techniques as they are related to the inspections. Qualifications:

Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities: Training and Experience Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform this function are acquired through possession of a high school diploma or equivalent AND Four (4) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering/construction work experience, of which two (2) years are equivalent to the level of Construction Inspector in the County of Santa Clara. Substitution: Completion of 20 semester units from an accredited college in Engineering or related subjects may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience, provided that no substitution is permitted for the required two (2) years of experience at the level of Construction Inspector. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver’s authorization.
