Description:

The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Deputy County Counsel – Environmental/Land Use/Zoning in the Office of County Counsel. There are immediate vacancies in the Office of County Counsel for attorneys to provide legal advice to County officials responsible for the administration of state and local laws related to land use, zoning, planning, and the environment. The attorneys selected will be responsible for ensuring that these services and functions conform to legal requirements and for representing the County before administrative bodies. Responsibilities also include reviewing and interpreting statutes, regulations and case law, drafting and interpreting contracts, reviewing environmental impact reports, analyzing and drafting legislation and providing oral and written advice on legal issues. The employment list established by this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and any others that occur during the next six months.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Qualified applicants must possess at least three (3) years of professional post-bar civil legal experience as an attorney and be a member in good standing with the California State Bar. Please provide your CA Bar number or attach a copy of your California Bar Card to your application. Desirable experience includes an understanding of the structure of federal, state and county governments, knowledge of general principles of contracting law, experience drafting contracts, interpreting statutes and regulations, drafting legislation, and experience handling CEQA and land use matters in a public or private sector law office. In addition, desirable experience also includes prior work on environmental issues related to climate change, analysis of greenhouse gas emissions, and renewable energy.
