Marin County has one full-time, fixed-term vacancy in Health & Human Services, Mental Health and Substance Use Services. This fixed-term position is funded through June 30, 2016 and continuation is dependent upon on-going funding.

The Social Service Worker II provides support to adults and older adults with severe mental illnesses transitioning between residential settings and across various levels of care. The position involves assessing needs via review of client records, discussion with direct service providers, and occasional direct client interviews as well as making recommendations for levels of care and referrals to appropriate facilities. Typical tasks involve tracking bed availability and client movement throughout the system, supporting facility staff, hospital staff and outpatient providers, and visits to facilities including state hospitals, other locked settings, unsecured settings and enhanced board and care providers, for purposes of treatment review and planning. 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience providing social services and performing social work activities in mental health and substance use services for clients with severe mental illness. The successful candidate will have experience working with clients in secured settings, including direct interviews, and will have solid background knowledge of the various levels of care available to this population, admission and discharge criteria and processes.

Minimum Qualifications: EITHER possession of a Master’s Degree in Social Work OR a Master’s degree in a two-year counseling program by time of appointment, OR possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with coursework related to the field and four years of journey-level social casework experience of which two years were in adult social services at a level comparable to the County’s class of Social Service Worker I or Social Service Worker I - Bilingual.
