Description:

Under general direction of the VCERA Chief Operations Officer, this position manages a communications strategy which fosters public understanding and awareness of the agency’s goals, policies, programs and services to all VCERA members and stakeholders. The position provides the public and VCERA members with accurate, timely and consistent information. The ideal candidate will: • Be self-motivated and take initiative. • Engage with the population we serve. • Stay informed of key issues pertaining to VCERA members. • Demonstrate creativity through their work, including graphic design. • Have polished written and verbal communication skills including providing presentations to small and large audiences. PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE SALARIES: • Agency Public Information Officer II: $91,769.81 - $128,477.73 Annually • Agency Public Information Officer III: $106,682.40 – $149,355.36 Annually

Qualifications:

EUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Extensive experience in communications management in the public sector or similar environment which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of a qualifying education and experience is: Agency PIO II: • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Administration, Business, or a related field; and, • Two (2) years of recent, paid, and progressively responsible experience serving as a public information officer in the public sector or similar environment equivalent. Agency PIO III: • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Administration, Business, or a related field; and, • Three (3) years of recent, paid, and progressively responsible experience serving as a public information officer in the public sector or similar environment. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. • Intermediate proficiency with graphic design software. • Excellent written communication skills. • Contingent upon position, supervisory experience may be required.
