Getting to Know CSAC Communications Manager Kanisha Golden

February 16, 2022

CSAC’s new Communications Manager, Kanisha Golden, started on February 8th and she comes with a wide swath of knowledge and skills. Kanisha is an award-winning professional with a creative niche for communicating complex issues. She is an excellent writer, social media manager, content creator and team collaborator. Her work history includes the Association of California Water Agencies and the California Alliance for Jobs.

The Communications Team is excited to have Kanisha on board and to introduce her to the CSAC membership. CSAC recently had the pleasure of learning more about Kanisha’s background, goals and motivations. Below are her responses.

Q: Please share a little bit about yourself.

I’m a Sacramento native and graduate of California State University Sacramento with a degree in Government Journalism. Throughout my younger years, I thought I wanted to be television reporter but that changed after landing my first association communications position. I found that I love promoting worthy causes that affect communities.

Outside of my profession, I’m a mother of two beautiful kids and wife to an awesome husband. In our spare time, my family and I love to travel, camp and watch my daughter participate in equestrian competitions.

Q: What are you looking forward to with CSAC?

I’m looking forward to growing in my new role while offering my unique perspective and talent. I value collaboration and love a good challenge. In past positions, I worked in one policy area. The variety of policy issues that CSAC champions will give me the opportunity to stretch my professional chops.

Q: What are your goals for the year?

By the end of the year, I would like to have strong relationships with members, the media, and my colleagues. I also want to have a high level of understanding of CSAC policy priorities and how my position can help meet policy goals.

Q: What are you currently reading or watching?

I’m a huge DIY-er so HGTV is usually on when I have the time to watch T.V. As of now, I’m working on revamping my bathroom so you can catch me watching remodeling videos on YouTube as well.

Q: What is a hobby you like to do?

I love weightlifting. Not for the aesthetics but the calmness that comes with focusing on the task at hand while fighting my way to the next rep. I am also an angler. I have fished since I was two-years-old and when the weather permits, I like to hop on the boat and cast my line.

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is being a mother to my kiddos. Kallie, who is seven-years-old, is the nicest and most caring little girl you’ll ever meet. I take a lot of pride in that. My two-year-old son Karter is awesome too and loves to make people laugh.

Q: What motivates you to work hard?

Knowing the work I do directly impacts people drives me to work hard. I’m a firm believer in doing heartfelt work with a purpose. The world has enough problems. It would pain me to know I’m contributing to them.
