Stream Gaging Plan Released for Comment

Over the past 18 months, CSAC has participated in the development of a needs assessment for stream gaging across the state. Counties have a direct interest in how we monitor water in the state, from drought to new challenges in flood management and quarter quality across regions. The Technical Advisory Committee made its recommendations to the state agencies who have begin the formal review process. We encourage counties to participate in this public process.

Senate Bill 19 (Statutes of 2019, Chapter 361, Dodd) directs the Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) to develop a plan to address gaging information gaps through the deployment of a network of prioritized stream gages in consultation with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), Department of Conservation (DOC), the Central Valley Flood Protection Board, and interested stakeholders.

The 2022 California Stream Gaging Prioritization Plan Draft Technical Report and Appendices are now available for review and public comment. Comments are due by COB May 31, 2022 and can be submitted to StreamGagingPlan@Waterboards.ca.gov.
