California Counties Go Live, Supporting Governor Newsom’s Broadband Plan

Earlier this week, CSAC facilitated a Zoom news conference featuring a broad coalition of elected officials, non-profit leaders and school district representatives from across the state to support Governor Newsom’s $7 billion broadband plan. Organized by Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez, the news conference urged California Legislators to approve Governor Newsom’s plan highlighted by an investment in a statewide, open access, fiber middle mile network before the July recess. CSAC 2nd Vice President and Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington and Mono County Supervisor John Peters spoke on the importance of broadband in enhance equity statewide and the need for infrastructure in rural areas. Nearly a dozen media outlets participated in the event, which generated coverage in a number of news outlets, including KNX 1070.
