Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative Release Updated Workplan

This week, the California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) released an update of the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative Efforts.

The Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative was included in the Budget Act of 2021 allocating $27.5 million for county-school behavioral health partnerships and $5.5 million for qualifying Medi-Cal managed care plans to implement school interventions, with additional funding for other youth behavioral health efforts led by health plans, schools, counties, and community based organizations for Californians aged 0 to 25 with a strong emphasis on school-based behavioral health activities and requires health plans to cover school-linked behavioral health services.

The stakeholder update from CalHHS shares the initiative’s goals along with the current work and planning phases of the five CalHHS departments which include: The Department of Health Care Services. Department of Health Care Access and Information, Department of Managed Health Care, California Department of Public Health, and the Office of the Surgeon General.

CSAC continues to work closely as a stakeholder in this process as the workplan transitions into implementation efforts. Stakeholders are welcome to provide input on the efforts of the initiative by emailing CYBHI@chhs.ca.gov.
