Counties Requested to Submit COVID-19 Claims to Cal OES for Review Prior to FEMA Submittal

December 1, 2022

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is requesting local jurisdictions to submit all eligible COVID-19 costs incurred up to July 1, 2022 in order to maximize Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursement. Although the September 30 deadline for this submission to Cal OES has lapsed, Cal OES is still accepting these submissions as many local jurisdictions’ submissions are still outstanding.

Although the application deadline to formally submit claims to FEMA is December 31, 2022, Cal OES is requesting local jurisdictions submit their eligible costs beforehand in order to provide Cal OES with the opportunity to provide technical assistance and support prior to formal submittal to FEMA. To assist with Cal OES’ ability to timely review submittals and avoid any loss of FEMA reimbursement opportunities, CSAC staff sent a reminder to all County Executive Officers last week to submit COVID-19 eligible costs as soon as possible.

Counties with questions about the submittal process and deadlines can contact Jolie Onodera (jonodera@counties.org) and Danielle Bradley (dbradley@counties.org).
