DOJ Opens FY 2021 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) Application

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) opened its FY 2021 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) solicitation.

Under the statutorily required State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) makes payments to eligible “states” and “units of local government” that incur certain types of costs due to “incarceration” of “undocumented criminal aliens” during a particular 12-month reporting period. The reporting period for the FY 2021 program is July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.

Before entering any information into the online application for the FY 2021 program, the government official who will complete and submit the application on behalf of an applicant government MUST carefully review this document.

NOTICE: OJP continues work to finalize the necessary steps in order to make FY 2020 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) reimbursements available as soon as possible. This Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) FY 2021 SCAAP Requirements and Application Instructions announcement is released prior to the availability of FY 2020 SCAAP reimbursements in order to expedite the availability of FY 2021 reimbursements.
