DWR Announces Pilot Flood Workshop for Underrepresented Communities

July 22, 2021

As part of the California Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) commitment to supporting underrepresented communities, DWR’s Division of Flood Management is partnering with the Division of Regional Assistance on a free, virtual, pilot workshop. The focus of the workshop is sharing information with California’s Underrepresented Communities and California’s Native American Tribes about the Floodplain Management Branch’s technical assistance and grant programs – e.g., the Post-Wildfire Watershed Assessment Program.

The workshop will focus on small community risk reduction, floodplain management and protection, and technical assistance for various DWR flood risk reduction programs. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will also be sharing information about grant programs that support building resilience in communities and provide funding pre- and post-disaster.

Who should attend this virtual workshop? The workshop is intended for community planners, emergency response planners, integrated regional water management agencies, tribal representatives, and any others dedicated to disseminating critical information to underrepresented communities.
