AB 11 (Gonzalez) – Pending

Assembly Bill 11, by Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez, would extend paid sick leave to in-home supportive services (IHSS) employees. Counties will recall that Governor Brown last year signed AB 1522, the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, which required employers to allow employees to accrue and use up to three paid sick leave days in a 12-month period for the diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition or preventative care for an employee or an employee’s family members.
AB 11 will be heard in the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee on March 18.
AB 67 (Gonzalez) – Pending

Assembly Bill 67, by Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez, would enact the Double Pay on the Holiday Act of 2015 that would require an employer to pay at least two times the regular rate of pay to an employee for work on a “family holiday” which is defined in the bill as the fourth Thursday of November (Thanksgiving) and December 25 (Christmas).
AB 67 will be heard in the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee on March 18.
SB 29 (Beall) – Pending

Senate Bill 29, by Senator Jim Beall, would require the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to require field training officers who are instructors for the field training program to have 40 hours of evidence-based behavioral health training. The bill would also require POST to require the field training program to include a 20-hour evidence-based behavioral health training course relating to law enforcement interaction with persons with mental illness or intellectual disability.
SB 29 will be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee on April 7.
