Funding Opportunity: Addressing Mental Health Needs of Older Adults

February 23, 2023

The Mental Health Services Oversight & Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) has released a Request for Application (RFA) to award $20 million in available Mental Health Wellness Act funds to support the implementation and scaling of Age Wise and PEARLS programs throughout California with the overall goal of addressing the mental health needs of older adults.

Developed by the County of San Bernardino, Age Wise is a non-traditional mental health program designed to serve high-risk and underserved older adults through services such as in-home behavioral health and case management, counseling, and peer and family advocacy. PEARLS is a brief, time-limited, and participant-driven program designed to educate older adults about depression and promote self-sufficiency and active lives.

Eligible applicants include County Behavioral Health departments, Area Agencies on Aging, and non-profits who serve older adults with mental health related needs. MHSOAC will host a virtual bidder conference on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10:00 am to walk through the RFA and answer participant questions. Final applications for funding are due on April 7, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. Additional information on the funding opportunity can be found on the program’s webpage.
