NACo Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge Offers Grant Funding

The National Association of Counties (NACo), the Aetna Foundation/CVS Health, and the American Public Health Association have launched the Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge, an initiative to accelerate systems-level approaches to improving community health.

Eligible applicants are counties, cities and federally recognized tribes with a population of up to 600,000 in California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia that are prepared to work across silos in order to advance health equity and prevent chronic diseases.

The Challenge participants will receive up to $100,000 over a two-year period and non-financial support toward their efforts in addressing: 

  • Access to foods that support healthy eating patterns, and/or 
  • Access to health services through systems-level approaches. 

The application is due March 4 at 3:00 PM EST. Twenty communities will be selected to participate and all applicants will be notified by mid-April 2020. Counties interested in The Challenge can find the RFP and application form here.
