Public Defense Pilot Program, Round 2

October 27, 2022

The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) is announcing the release of the Public Defense Pilot Program (PDPP) Request for Applications (RFA).

This RFA makes approximately $49.4 million available to counties. PDPP funds must be utilized for indigent defense providers, including public defenders, alternate defenders, and other qualifying entities that provide indigent defense in criminal matters for the purposes of workload associated with Sections 1172.1, 1172.6, 1473.7, and 3051 of the Penal Code.

All California counties are eligible to participate in the Public Defense Pilot Program. The BSCC will accept re-applications from existing awardees and new applications from other counties. PDPP RFAs must be received by the BSCC by 5:00 p.m. on December 5, 2022.

The BSCC staff cannot assist the applicant or its partners with the actual preparation of the application. Any technical questions concerning the RFA, the application process, or programmatic issues must be submitted by email to: publicdefensegrant@bscc.ca.gov.
