Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory (RIPA) Board Releases 2024 Annual Report

January 4, 2024

The California Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board (Board) has released its 2024 Annual Report. The report continues to focus on the Board’s prior work by analyzing additional ways to enhance law enforcement and community interactions and reduce racial and identity profiling.

It analyzes stop data reported on more than 4.5 million stops by 535 California law enforcement agencies from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022. Additionally, the report examines youth interactions with law enforcement, both within and outside of schools, and examines the impact of police unions on law enforcement accountability and protocols and guidelines for law enforcement training on racial and identity profiling. Lastly, the report continues the Board’s examination of pretextual stops, analyzing the results of stops where field interview cards are completed and where the stops result in resisting arrest charges.
