September 3, 2020

The California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (CAPH) and the California Health Care Safety New Institute (SNI), published an article highlighting the critical role county Whole Person Care (WPC) pilot programs have had in the COVID-19 response.

The article reviewed the work of three of the 26 WPC pilots in their county’s COVID-19 response and recovery. Identifying key areas that include cross-sector partnerships, street outreach, service coordination, data infrastructure, and assisting vulnerable individuals; the article demonstrates how WPC pilots used their existing infrastructure to quickly mobilize and help minimize the impact of COVID-19.

While the future of county organized WPC pilots is linked to the Section 1115 Medicaid Waiver is currently uncertain, the article reveals the Pilot’s pilots continued importance.
