WOTUS Webinars for Local Officials

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Army Corps) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are hosting two Waters of the United States (WOTUS) webinars specifically for state and local officials and association staff. The webinars will take place on Monday, January 24,  2022 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 7:00 – 10:00 a.m.

On December 7, 2021, the EPA and Army Corps published a proposed rule in the Federal Register to restore the regulations defining “waters of the United States” that were in place until 2015, with revisions to reflect consideration of relevant Supreme Court decisions. There is a 62-day public comment period on the proposed rule which began with its publication in the Federal Register and closes on Monday, February 7, 2022.

In the webinars, the agencies will provide an overview of the proposed WOTUS rule and findings from the federalism consultation, followed by regional breakout rooms to discuss details of the proposal and areas of interest. Representatives of the agencies will be in breakout rooms discussing the relatively permanent standard, significant nexus definition, specific waters definition, exclusions and state regulatory programs.
