105 Fire Prevention Grant Winners Awarded with $138 Million

September 16, 2021

This week CAL FIRE announced 105 local projects will receive $138 million through its Fire Prevention Grant program. The Grant provides direct funding to local agencies and organizations, like fire safe councils, to support fire prevention projects like fuel reduction, wildfire planning, and fire prevention education. Of the total award amount, $123 million was allocated in the 2021-22 budget, and an additional $14.8 million is being reallocated for grants from the Department’s 2020-21 budget.

This comes as another win to counties, who are on the front lines of preventing wildfire in California. Earlier this year Governor Newsom appointed two county representatives, CSAC President James Gore (Sonoma County), and Rural Counties Representatives of California Chair Stacy Corless (Mono County), to the California Forest Management Task Force. The Task Force was established in 2018 to introduce a more holistic, integrated approach toward effective forest management.
