Local governments are in the business of engaging the public, but some ways of doing it are better than others. The Institute for Local Government (A CSAC sponsored organization) is sponsoring a workshop in coordination with Mendocino County Local Agency Formation Commission and the California Special District Association to explore the best ways to engage the public.

USDA Releases Secure Rural Schools Payments

On March 18, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Forest Service officially announced the release of $272 million in Secure Rural School (SRS) payments to counties. It should be noted that the payments were slated to be released in February but were delayed as the administration sought clarification as to whether the program would be subject to sequestration. It was ultimately determined that the payments would not be subject to a sequester reduction.

CSAC would like to introduce you to the newest member of the team, Elizabeth Marsolais, who joins us to work as our new Legislative Analyst. She started earlier this week as is working with Farrah McDaid Ting and Amanda Yang in the Health and Human Services policy area for CSAC.
